Meeting Information
Mammoth Lakes, Ca is nestled in the Sierra Nevada Range, just 25 miles southwest of the Nevada border. Located between Mammoth Mountain to the west and the Sherwin Range to the south, Mammoth Lakes is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Sierras and offers visitors access to fantastic hiking and winter activities. The canyons south of Mammoth Lakes are home to beautiful and unique examples of western Great Basin rock art. Specific field trip locations will be announced closer to the meeting, but NRAF members are guaranteed access to spectacular and rarely seen rock art in this area. The theme of this year’s meeting is Trans-Sierran Connections, and participants can look forward to lectures that investigate connections among the rock art found on the east and west sides of the Sierra Nevada Range, as well as on other issues in rock art recordation and research methodology, and on the stylistic components of Great Basin rock art.
